About Backflow

What is a backflow preventer?

A backflow preventer is a testable or non-testable device that consists of internal check valves which block potential contaminants from returning, or "backflowing", into the potable water system. Points at which potable water systems connect with a non-potable water systems are called cross connections.

What is backflow testing?

Backflow tests are annually required by City by-laws to verify that the internal check valves in a backflow preventer are working properly, which ensures that drinking water is free of contaminants. A cross connection inspection at your residential or commercial building will keep you code compliant, and help you to avoid backflow events related to sprinkler systems, boilers, hose bibs, ice machines, and carbonated beverage machines etc.
